Canon: Wild Arms: Alter Code F

Character: Boomerang

Timeline: After his first 'death'. During his third battle with the heroes of Wild Arms in Ka Dingel, he's interrupted by Zeikfried and his minions, who have orders to eliminate all of them, including himself. At this point, Boomerang tells the heroes to go ahead while he stays behind to face a battalion of demons. He remarks to Luceid that they'll have to go to Hell together -- he dies in battle shortly after, and it's after this that he'll awaken in Adstringendum.

Personality: If there was ever a term to fully describe Boomerang, it's encapsulated by how he describes himself -- as war demon.

Born over a thousand years ago on a long-since dead world known as Hiades, he is a member of a race of creatures known as 'demons'. (The term is actually misleading since they aren't tied to the Judeo-Christian mythos at all, but rather they're a race of beings composed of a substance known as 'Living Metal'.) They are brutal, violent, intelligent, as well as a great deal more durable than beings of flesh and blood. Boomerang is no exception, though he takes his own nature to a much greater extreme than his fellows in that he actually lives for the thrill of battle.

Though very little is known about his history, he is immediately recognizable to his fellow demons. They call him the "Annihilator", the "Staunch Rogue", and he even refers to himself as a "mortician, who makes death presentable". A notorious demon known for slaying his own kind as well as others, he makes no real distinction between humans and demons except in terms of how he perceives their character. For instance, he derides the demon Berserk for losing to 'weak opponents' even after using guile to defeat to the heroes of the game (Jack, Rudy, and Cecilia) and goes so far as to slice him in half out of contempt. He has no patience for those who rely on treachery to fight their battles, and though he is cunning and ruthless, Boomerang also carries within him a bizarre sense of honor.

Though he is a member of the race hellbent on destroying humanity from the face of Filgaia, Boomerang seems to hold no small amount of respect for the human spirit -- the strength of will and determination that makes even the weak rise to become strong. He expresses it in his fights with Rudy, Jack, and Cecilia, encouraging them to become stronger and ascend to his level of power. To that end, he actually sacrifices himself for the trio, vowing to return from Hell to finish the battle they began.

Of course, that isn't to say Boomerang is at all selfless -- he is, in fact, a very self-serving character since it doesn't actually matter to him who he hurts or kills. In the original game, he's referred to as a mercenary, and it fits him very well. So long as his desire for battle is satisfied, it doesn't matter to him who he's helping or hurting. He craves battle, and he can admit that without shame.

All of that being said, Boomerang is a consummate warrior. He believes in living free and dying well, and he waits for the day that he will finally meet someone worthy of facing him in true combat.

It should also be mentioned that Boomerang's strength of will and desire for this is so strong, it allows the Guardian Luceid to maintain a corporeal form -- all the others are spirits and unable to manifest themselves for extended periods of time.

Abilities/Additional Notes:

- Boomerang is a demon. That means, while his body structure is similar to a human being's (nerves, muscles, skeletal system, etc), he is essentially made of inorganic as opposed to organic material. This means that he's stronger, faster, and a great deal more durable than flesh could ever be. If he's fatally wounded (or loses a body part, per se), he can eventually heal or repair himself so long as he has the necessary tools to do it. (This actually happens in Alter Code F, since Boomerang himself leaves the remains of Berserk in Zeikfried's room, and he's later seen as a boss in Malduke). He is weak to lightning/thunder attacks, and he has a 'second' form that he uses only when he's ready to go all-out.

- Boomerang is a skilled and powerful swordsman. His attacks in the game are generally variations on striking one, or multiple opponents at once with the blade. as well as some hand-to-hand combat. His weapon, the Sabre Fang, functions as both a sword as well as a weapon he can throw (thus the name, Boomerang), but it will NOT be coming with him to Adstringendum.

- If at all possible, I'd like him to end up in the game with
Luceid since she's the manifestation of his desire/bond to the battlefield. The Guardian of Desire doesn't have much of a personality to speak of (she growls a few times, and that's it), but she does have a few abilities. She can make a character 'Forgetful' (e.g. not collect experience at the end of a fight), attack a character physically, or use Dark Renegade, an attack that basically looks like a a bunch of swords raining down from the sky. She can be destroyed in battle, but since it's Boomerang's thirst for battle that sustains her, she will always regenerate as long as he's around.

If this isn't okay, just let me know!

First-Person Sample:

[ A man (if one could call him such) sits on a stone in the middle of the wastes, his posture casual. A dark, wolf-like beast lies next to him, and he appears to be deep in thought. ]

I've heard tell this place is a nexus point for wandering souls -- that it terrorizes and tortures those who arrive here.

[ Glowing, yellow eyes appraise the screen. ]

I say, this place is a far cry from Hell.

[ He rises, and the 'wolf' rises with him. ]

I'm in need of a blade. To those of you with knowledge of such things, I'd appreciate a little direction.

Third-Person Sample:

It's not possible.

Three words he should know better than ever allow into his mind. He'd seen a great many things over long ages, and he knew better than to permit himself to be surprised. However, awakening to unfamiliar surrounds after the pitch and fire of Hell was somewhat...surprising.

A sharp wind caught the tail of his coat, whipping it around him as he appraised the decrepit surroundings with a critical eye. Even Filgaia, decaying as it was, hadn't quite reached this stage. The air was different, and he had a sense this was what the planet would become if Zeikfried had his way.

Not that it mattered to him.

Turning on his heel, he strode towards the edge of the city, the Wastelandss as he would soon learn they were called. It called to him, the malignancy of beasts residing there creating an odd sort of draw. A warrior though he considered himself, he was a demon as well. Destruction was their nature, and war was all he knew or ever cared to know. Though they could in no way compare to the noble warriors he'd chosen as his prey, they could at least keep his skills sharp until he escaped from this quagmire.

He'd promised they would finish their battle, after all. And it was a promise he fully intended to keep.
